Term Overview
what is contemporary culture?
The Contemporary culture Is the set of everyday manifestations, thoughts, ideals and customs shared by a group of individuals.. This is transmitted through communication, which at the same time forms a society in which these manifestations are expanded, as well as become traditions, activities and purposes preserved from generation to generation.
The Task
TASK:
Hypothesis – Religious ideas can be found in contemporary culture, e.g. music, films and technologies.
From the above hypothesis, construct specific research questions that will guide you to develop a multimodal presentation.
Your questions need to refer to least one question covering personal, relational and spiritual aspects of contemporary culture. You can use the questions below if you wish.

Census Task
Create a visually appealing and easy to understand snap shot of the History of Religions in Australia using the online software Infogr.am and primary sources. Visually display the key data and outline the key trends.
Step 1: Using the 1911 Census Data, complete a section of the table and discuss facts about the census. https://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/Latestproducts/2112.0Feature%20Article21911?opendocument&tabname=Summary&prodno=2112.0&issue=1911&num=&view=
Step 2: In pairs, select a historical census. Locate the national religion data. Calculate the appropriate numbers and place these into the table. As a class collaborate on filling the table.
Step 3: Look at the data in the table we created and in the Religious Affiliation bar graph here https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/Lookup/by+Subject/2071.0~2016~Main+Features~Religion+Data+Summary~70 (scroll down). Can you identify any trends (increases, decreases, changes in numbers)? What could account for these changes? Note them in Padlet.
Step 4: Look through the historical events list below, can you match any of the trends to historical events?
Step 5: Use the software Infogr.am to create an infographic to display the information the class has collated in the table. http://infogr.am/
Step 6: Email your infogram URL to your teacher.
Step 7: Read through the following document: Religion in Australia [AF1] . Highlight important points about reasons for change in religious numbers in Australia. Summarise 4 key understandings you now have about the history of religion in Australia.
